Online Resource to Assist Productions in Reducing Their Environmental Impact

HOLLYWOOD, CA: In keeping with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's vision of improving California's environment while fostering economic development, the California Film Commission today launched the Green Resource Guide, a new Web-based resource to promote environmentally-conscious film production.

"The Green Resource Guide marries two of the things California does best -- making great movies and reducing greenhouse gas emissions," said Governor Schwarzenegger. "We have been pioneers in aerospace, Silicon Valley and biotechnology. With the launch of this great new guide, I'm pleased that another of our signature industries joins the next wave of California's economy."

The Green Resource Guide, which can be found at www.film.ca.gov, provides production companies with information and tools to reduce their environmental footprint, while saving them the time and expense of conducting their own environmental research.

From pre to post-production, the Green Resource Guide supplies everything from handy tips on green office practices to useful contacts with green vendors. For example, the site has information on where to find sustainably harvested lumber for set production and lists of food banks that accept surplus meals for caterers.

"This guide has been designed to completely streamline the process of green production for film companies of any size," said Amy Lemisch, Director of the California Film Commission. "It's my hope that these easy, environmentally friendly practices will catch on with all productions shooting in California and throughout the country for that matter. They're available to everyone."

The Green Resource Guide comes at a time when the environmental movement is entering the mainstream. More and more production companies are looking for ways to minimize their effect on the environment and some have already adopted many of these environmental guidelines in their day-to-day productions.

"I hope this new resource will encourage all productions to follow suit; and that the Green Resource Guide helps the motion picture industry stay on the leading edge of environmentally friendly practices," said Lemisch.
