Production Company Among First to Take Advantage of Film California First Incentive Program

HOLLYWOOD -- On Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4, 2001, the California Film Commission's Hollywood offices will play a leading role in the filming of Deuces, a new feature-length psychological and sci-fi thriller.

The California Film Commission (CFC) offices were "discovered" while Deuces producer Benjamin Liu was at the Hollywood Boulevard location using the CFC resource library and CinemaScout®, the CFC on-line locations locator that allows filmmakers to easily scout, research and inquire about more than 8,000 images of locations throughout California.

"The production team of Deuces has discovered that the CFC is truly a one-stop shop for filmmakers," said CFC Director, Karen R. Constine.

In filming at the CFC, Liu discovered not only a perfect location, but an added incentive: he can take advantage of a bevy of incentives from the new Film California First (FCF) Program, unveiled earlier this year by Governor Gray Davis. Under the three year, $45 million program, production companies will be reimbursed for certain film costs incurred when filming on local, state and federal public property. In addition, the program makes filming on State property a virtually free option.

"Film California First will significantly reduce the production's bottom line, and was a major factor in our choice of location," said Liu. In addition to filming at the CFC offices, Liu elected to film other scenes of Deuces on public property eligible under the FCF Program: the Junipero Serra Building and the Ronald Reagan State Building, in downtown Los Angeles. The CFC issued Liu the permits to film on both properties. The State of California does not charge permit fees or locations fees for the properties it permits.

"Film California First is the latest addition to the many existing services and incentives offered by the California Film Commission, including our on-site resource center, CinemaScout®, and permitting assistance for filming on State Property," said Constine.

According to Lui, Deuces, the first movie ever to film entirely on a BodyCam by Advanced Camera, will be filmed in HD 24p technology developed by George Lucas. For more information, visit the Deuces website at www.deucesthemovie.com.
